The Aster is an erect, perennial herb with slender stems at the top which carry lots of tiny flowers (approximately 1cm in diameter). Flower heads open from top to bottom. This is different from most other plants.
Did you know?
The name comes from Old English Aster (Latin: star) and startwort (wort = medicinal root). The flowers were also a symbol of the wish that things had turned out differently. That’s why they were laid on the graves of French soldiers.
Care tips
Cut the stems and remove all the leaves that will touch or go below the water level. Change the water every few days.
