This is a bulbous herbaceous spring flowering perennial and is part of the Lily family. This flower is commercially important in horticulture and as an ornamental garden plant, but also has great value in traditional Chinese medicine.

The Fritillaria was, and still is a very popular flower for artists to draw and paint. Van Gogh featured it in one of his paintings called: ‘Imperial Crown Fritillaria in a copper vase.’

Care tips

When buying Fritillaria, look for swollen buds showing colour but still closed. Recut stems and use flower food.
