December - March
Common name: Hyacinth
Genus Name: Hyacinthus orientalis
Family Name: Asparagaceae
Place of Origin: Turkey, Syria and Lebanon.
How long do they last? 4-7 days
A bulbous flower that is known to many as the fragrant introduction to spring. This is slightly odd, as the Hyacinth is a typical winter bloomer.
Did you know?
That the different coloured hyacinths carry different meanings? The blue hyacinth stands for sincerity, while the white variety reflects purity. Purple stands for sadness, pink for happiness, and yellow for jealousy.
Do not re-cut the stems, as the remaining bulb base is vital to vase life. Place upright in shallow water and refresh the water every 2 days.
