Some species are annuals, others perennials. Most of the species leaves are somewhat hairy and partly divided into lobes. The flowers are borne on inflorescences in the form of heads with small florets.

The common name ‘scabious’ comes from the herb’s traditional usage as a folk medicine to treat scabies, an illness that causes a severe itching sensation.
Care tips
Cut the stems at an angle and remove all the leaves that will touch or go below the water level. Place the stems in water that is room temperature and change the water every few days. When you refresh the water don’t forget to recut the stems.
