Breaking floral world records – do you dare?

Last week, the new Guinness Book of World Records was launched globally. That’s why we deemed it a good time to dive into past world records related to our greatest passion: flowers and plants. Have a look below and be amazed by these floral world records.

Largest flower arrangement | 2016

The first one in our list of floral world records might be the most photogenic of all! On December 2nd 2016, Dubai Miracle Garden created a full-size model of the Emirates Airbus A380. The 73 metres long installation was fully covered in around 500,000 real flowers and plants. When in full bloom, the world’s largest floral installation counted of 5 million flowers.

Largest carpet of flowers/plants | 2018

On December 8th 2018, 120 hard-working people achieved the new world record of largest carpet of flowers/plants after working a total of 150 hours. The record – a floral carpet of 191,653 ft² 72 in² – was set in Mexico by Jardines de México. The carpet consisted of 150,000 Poinsettia flowers – also known as the ‘Christmas flower’.

Largest flower basket | 2018

The world record for largest flower basket was achieved on 10 March 2018 in Singapore. The National Parks Board succeeded in constructing a flower basket of 3 ft 11 inch tall, 31 ft 1 inch long and 19 ft 8 inch wide. We are sure that would make an impressive shop window! The National Park Board’s first successful record attempt was in 2016, when they created the largest floral chandelier.

Longest journey walking on flower petals | 2015

Get ready for a real bizarre floral world record – one set by 1,130 Buddhist monks in 2015. These monks walked an incredible 301.36 miles during the 29-day pilgrimage called ‘Dhammachai Dhutanga’. The monks travelled on foot across Thailand, on a trail that only existed of natural flower petals (fresh or dried). Over a million people helped create this beautiful trail of florals.

Largest flower arranging workshop | 2011

In 2011, the world’s largest flower arranging workshop was held in Kannur, India. Organiser Globerz Entertainments gathered 1,892 workshop attendees to create a fresh flower carpet of 2,1264 ft2 in only 46 minutes. Can you imagine being a part of such a massive event?

Largest flower auction | 2004

As some of you may know, the flower auction and flower market in Aalsmeer, the Netherlands is the largest flower auction in the world! They trade approximately 12,1 billion flowers and plants a year, process over 100,000 transactions a day and have 2,636 staff members. The total area of the building covers around 165 soccer fields.
