Colour inspiration for the New Year

Pantone recently presented the colour of the year 2018: Ultra Violet. This colour is booming and will be the trend for this year. We absolutely love it! This blue-based purple colour symbolises originality, inventiveness, and visionary thinking.

The creative colour

The colour purple has been a symbol of counterculture, unconventionality and creativity for a very long time. Just have a look at music stars such as Jimi Hendrix, Prince and David Bowie. They used purple as a personal expression of individuality.

Purple flowers have also been popular in other art forms. Take the Iris, for example, this flower has been the subject of famous painters such as Leonardo da Vinci, van Gogh, and of course Monet. Did you know that Van Gogh’s Irises painting was sold for $53.9M in 1987? That is one expensive bouquet.

Ultra Violet beauties

Another Ultra Violet flower is the Matthiola for example. This flower makes you instantly think of an English garden and will look stunning in a rustique bouquet full of wild flowers. The sweet, slightly spicy aroma of the Matthiola will set anyone in a romantic mood.

Or what do you think about the Anemone? The Anemone comes in all sorts of shades, but the purple ones symbolise the anticipation and protection from evil. So keep these violet beauties close.

Veronica

Veronica spicata, better known as speedwell or Royal Candles is an outstanding upright growing plant with large, attractive deep-green leaves and long blooming spikes of deep purple-blue flowers. The perennial flowers add that extra bit of height to your bouquet or arrangement. Butterflies and bees are extremely fond of the plant and we can’t blame them.
