As of today, spring has officially started! In the Netherlands, the feeling of spring will be enhanced by breath-taking flower fields. All kinds of colours will be showing; from yellow to pink and from white to purple. In this article, we will tell you more about this beautiful phenomenon and all other things floral during spring in Holland.
From the end of March until the beginning of May, flower fields in Holland will be blooming. The season kicks off with loads of yellow: Narcissus! Yellow is, therefore, the dominant colour from the end of March until mid-April. Next up: Hyacinths. Along with their heavenly scent, we will definitely see more white, purple and pink in April. Last but not least, from mid-April until the beginning of May, flower fields will be showing colourful Tulips.
Ever heard of the Keukenhof before? With over 7 million planted bulbs per year, this giant flower garden is a real must-see when you visit Holland during spring. Besides loads of Tulips in all possible colours, you will also see Crocuses, Narcissus and Hyacinths – spring all over! Because of the Keukenhof’s 70th birthday, this year’s theme is ‘Flower Power’ with a wink to the ’70s. The Keukenhof is open from 21 March until 19 May 2019.
Hop on your bike!
If you want to enjoy the flower fields to the fullest, we recommend that you rent a bike. By riding a bike you will be able to easily discover the most beautiful fields and – of course – to take loads of pictures. It’s possible to rent a bike at the Keukenhof. For everyone with a little more budget, there is always the possibility of trying a helicopter flight! The view of the stunning bright flower fields from above will definitely be a memorable experience.
As you can imagine, the Dutchies love their flowers and like to show them off. That’s why every year, they organise the ‘Bloemencorso’. The Bloemencorso is like a flower parade, complete with floats and all. The official parade (which is 2.5 kilometres long) will be held on the 13th of April 2019.
